How Recording Works

Dual-Track Audio Capture

Myna uses WASAPI (Windows Audio Session API) to capture two separate audio streams simultaneously:

  • System audio — everything you hear through your speakers or headphones (the other participants in a call)
  • Microphone audio — your voice, captured from your default recording device

These are saved as separate tracks, which enables accurate speaker identification during transcription. Myna knows which words are yours and which came from other participants.

File Format and Storage

Recordings are saved as M4A files (AAC audio) in your Documents folder:

Documents/Myna/recordings/
  2024-01-15_14-30-00_zoom-call/
    audio.m4a — Full mixed recording
    audio_mic.m4a — Your microphone track
    audio_system.m4a — System audio track
metadata.json — Duration, date, detected app, etc.

Folder names are human-readable — you can browse and play your recordings using any file manager or audio player, even without Myna installed.

Privacy

All audio files are stored only on your device. They are never uploaded, synced, or transmitted anywhere.
